After Saturday’s half marathon, my legs hurt – but in ways I hadn’t expected. I was envisaging shin/calf pain, as well as perhaps some hip, ankle or heel pain. These are the bits of my body that were screaming loudest as we set into the first hill. I was pretty much resigned to needing to take a couple of weeks off to heal from an injury.
Well, knock me down with a feather. All I seem to have is sore (as in DOMS) quads….the bit of my body which does most exercise and which never hurts. It could actually be that this was from running downhill.
On Sunday and Monday, it hurt to stand up, it hurt to walk – they were even sore to the touch. I was too much of a wimp to use the foam roller, which would have been exceptionally painful.
By Tuesday, this pain had pretty much gone, as you would expect with DOMS. Did I really get away with running that terrible hilly half marathon, without sufficient training, without injuring myself??
Actually, yes way. On Tuesday evening, I set out for a short “shake it out” run around our local park.
So far so good. Hopefully I can do a slightly-longer run in the coming days and take it from there.
Oh running. You never fail to surprise me.
